A Responsibility Shared, A Partnership Built!

“Alone we can do so little, but together so much.” Helen Keller. In fact, there is no doubt that the parents’ partnership with the school is an indispensable element in the student’s success. Thus, the parents’ meetings tackled a specific point and aimed at equipping the parents with the necessary tools to better understand their teenagers’ attitudes and to guide them towards the right choices in life.
In a first time, Sr. Nawal Akiki, rector of the school, focused not only on how to lead our learners to make sensible choices, but also on the mission and vision of Ain Najm. Then, she exhibited the main guidelines for the year, such as the values we aim at instilling in the youth, the pedagogical approach we are adopting as well as the major projects we are involved in. It is in this respect that she advised the parents about the grant that the school received from USAID to improve and conserve the water through a number of innovative actions at the school. Then, each head of division tackled a key issue faced by the respective students. While Mrs Abou Haidar discussed the issue of emotional and sexual education in the lives of the 6th and 7th graders, Mrs Takadjian shared the right ways of guiding the 8th graders through their teenage crisis. She also highlighted the importance of making grade 9 learners responsible for their learning through practical steps. Mrs. Dada and Ms. Sacre, the respective heads of high school BF and BL, and following the topic of navigating the youth through the challenges of the 21st century, shared with the parents the orientations of the two grade levels and the requirements needed to lead a successful year, as well as practical steps to equip the learners with the right tools to face the demands of the age effectively. In the high school meetings, the life coach and NLP trainer, Mr. Naji Fakhoury, demonstrated through a water experiment, the challenges that this generation is going through. Mr Fakhoury then shared with the parents the different tips and actions that they can take to improve their relationship with their teenage kids.
The responsibilities are huge and the load heavy in today’s world, where our young learners are confronted with challenging situations on a daily basis. Thus, the importance of maintaining this partnership as collaborative as ever for the sake of our students, our children!
