Empathy in Action: Embracing the Journey of Childhood Cancer
For their social and spiritual project, our grade 11 students decided to join forces with the Children Cancer Center of Lebanon. It is in this respect that with hearts full of empathy, they listened to the heartfelt testimony of Mr. Abdallah Mroueh, a brave 22 year-old cancer survivor, who depicted his incredible journey to healing. Then, with Mrs. Lama Dinnawi, the fundraising and events generalist at CCCL, they learnt about the different activities that the centre holds to raise funds and to work on the patients’ well-being. Afterwards, Dr. Elie Bechara, the Pediatric hematologist oncologist at AUBMC, debunked some myths about cancer and provided the necessary information about its causes and cures. The conference ended with a Q & A session, in which our guests responded to the students’ questions with great pleasure.
Now that they have tackled the issue from the human, social and medical perspectives, our 11 graders are ready to fulfill their commitment and to assist the young patients at the centre.
