Bullying and cyberbullying – 2 sides of the Same Coin

“Bullying is not a reflection of the victim's character, but rather a sign of the bully's lack of character.”
They say that when you see acts of bullying in the school then that’s when you have to make an intervention. In Saints Coeurs Ain Najm, we have also decided to work on preventing bullying. It is in this respect that we raised awareness about the issue in the classes from grade 5 till grade 8.
During these sessions, we used a plethora of visual aids, informative videos and interactive activities. Our students learnt that bullying does not only occur between the bullied and the bully but that there are also the assistants, the bystanders and the defenders. We also raised the issue that immediate assistance and follow-up should be provided to the bullied as well as to the bully. In fact, the former needs to learn how to defend him/herself while the latter has to know that using violence against others is a sign of weakness. Then we discussed cyberbullying and its negative effects on the victim.
The main message that we aimed at sending was that whether we were bullied or bystanders, bullying should be reported to an adult that the kids trust. That’s when help can be provided!
