“Standing out in a world where conformity reigns but exceptions rule.”
~Youngme Moon
In this complex economic period, financial literacy is needed now more than ever before. It is in this respect that Amanda Maalouf, SSCC Ain Najm alumna, shared with us valuable information about money management and financial literacy.
“To be financially literate is to have the ability to not let money – or the lack of it – get in the way of our happiness as we work hard and build a solid career with a long and fulfilling retirement.” After explaining what the term means, our guest shared the financial foundations we should get acquainted with as well as common ways that may get us off track.
Our guest proceeded by giving us four financial tips to follow if we want to secure a better and more stable future. First, we should work on building our budget by tracking our daily spending, finding ways to decrease unnecessary expenses and increasing our profits. Second, we should increase our income through part-time jobs, scholarships and allowance. Managing flexible expenses and keeping track of payments was another piece of advice. Finally, Ms Maalouf recommended paying ourselves first.
The session was informative and interesting on so many levels, especially that we were provided by not only theories but also practical steps to become financially literate. These include reading, following key figures and investing in ourselves.
