As high school students, we have started to realise the importance of time management skills not only in relation to studies, but also to the different aspects of our daily life. It is in this respect that we didn’t hesitate to attend LAU’s three-hour webinar, held on May 15, 2021.
The training was interactive and interesting because we did a number of exercises. The trainer started by asking us to define time management. It is in fact the process of planning, and exercising conscious control of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity. Time management skills are also highly needed in our world as they make us more organized, better planners in the future, and more confident.
In addition, the webinar has made us see some concepts differently. For instance, we think that multitasking is a good way to finish our tasks quickly, but actually it’s not because it takes double the time to finish each task by itself. Moreover, we should organize our work by filling a calendar and not by writing the tasks on sticky notes, whose purpose is to leave notes and not organise the time. It was beneficial to know how to prioritize our tasks: first, we should write the urgent ones and the ones that we don’t have time for, followed by the important ones, and ending with the significant ones.
But to be able to make the best out of the time management skills, we need to have “SMART Goals”, which should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time sensitive.
Motivation is also very important because if we lose it, we will lose the ability to achieve our goals. Therefore, to be more motivated, fourteen points should be take into account. Here are seven:
1- Eliminate procrastination
2- Cut out all distractions
3- Dispel your fears
4- Watch a movie about a successful person
5- Set goals with milestones
6- Manage your time affectively
7- Be grateful to others
Three hours went by without feeling exhausted or getting bored. The webinar was fruitful because it linked theory to practice. Bottom line is “We shouldn’t waste time because we don’t have much of it”.
